Based in Tokyo, and having called the city home for most of his life, Taro Sumitani was recently appointed as the Senior Advisor to the Beare’s International Violin Society in Japan.
Following studies at Keio University, one of Japan’s leading and most historic higher education institutions, he entered a career in finance, holding key positions in Japanese investment banks. Across the past ten years, he has devoted himself to managing the exclusive “Kojunsha Club”, Japan’s oldest and most prominent social club.
In parallel with these activities, his philanthropic work has seen him support a number of gifted young musicians, nurturing their talents through the staging of public concerts across the last 20 years. Recently, Taro’s work has grown to include the activities of the Beare’s International Violin Society, with a particular focus on the Japanese cultural scene.
