At Beare’s, we are deeply saddened to hear of the death of one of our longest-standing company friends, György Pauk.
One of the most celebrated violinists of his generation, we always cherished his visits to our London home, sharing wonderful stories from his glittering international career. Across the world’s biggest stages, he worked with conductors including Maazel, Solti and Boulez, and would give the world premieres of a number of major 20th-century works from Lutoslawski, Penderecki, Tippett and more.
In his later life as a renowned pedagogue, his professorship at the Royal Academy of Music introduced us to many wonderful new-generation artists. His tireless support of new artists extended across his entire life – just last month, he had arranged the new long-term loan of his cherished 1714 “Massart” Stradivari violin to his student Júlia Pusker through the Beare’s International Violin Society.
As a teacher, performer and friend, he leaves behind a lasting legacy safeguarding the future of classical music.
